UW’s Counseling Services located at Needles Hall, as well as a satellite office for every Faculty, is “a team of professionals dedicated to supporting the personal, interpersonal, and academic functioning” of UW’s diverse community. They offer individual and group counseling and consultations with regards to: personal and social growth, critical situations or periods, as well as study skills. Any and all exchange is strictly confidential. Counseling Services also runs many workshops including but not limited to eating and cooking habits, studying and examination skills, stress and anxiety management, and many more. The International Students Office (ISO) previously located at Needles Hall and now at South Campus Hall, is a great source of information for international students. They organize programs such as English Conversation Classes and the English Conversation Program to improve speaking skills for new students. The Global Representative and the Shadow Programs allow new students to ask questions and seek help from their peers. ISO also organizes orientation sessions geared towards specific faculties during the second week of September. Another useful service they offer is immigration counseling, whether related to temporary visas, student visas or permanent residence applications.


The KW Multicultural Center, located in downtown Kitchener, offers many services and programs for newcomers. These include but are not limited to: interpretation and translation services, job search assistance, settlement support, and counseling. They also have a Commissioner of Oath on staff who can take Sworn Affidavits (Statements) or affirm Certified True Copies.
